On this blog entry, I want to talk about my favorite baseball team. The team name is called the Yomiuri Giants. There are many good players in that team. I think the best batter in Giants is Ogasawara Michihiro. His batting average is .320 and his position is on first base and third base. Also the Coach of the team is really good. His name is Hara Tatsunori. He was the coach for Japan in the 2009 WBC. Japan won the WBC because he was the Coach. I like Giants but, there is one player I hate. His name is Seung Yeop Lee. He is from Korea. No offense but he is really bad. I think a lot of Korean people likes him just because he is Korean. The pitcher I like best in Giants is Utsumi Tetsuya. He hasn’t won any games yet but if he does his best, he can win easily. In the WBC, he pitched against Korea and won. I think I explained about the good players and the bad players in Giants. Junior was a weak fly. He was always bullied from other flies. Even his family often teased him. He was smaller than everyone in his school and family. Everyone hated him. Even he hated himself. His family was poor and he didn’t eat much because his brothers and sisters took some of his food. One day when he came back from school beaten up, he thought to him “If I go like this everyday, I am going to die.” So with that, he flew away to find another family to live with. He found a hole in a tree and thought, “I want to live with them. They must be rich to have a house for themselves. I hope they’re nice.” He went in the hole and found himself stuck in the edge of hole. When he looked back, he knew why he was stuck. He was in a beehive. He was stuck on the honey. He hated honey and he wanted to get out of the beehive. When he looked up he saw a bee. Ready to sting him for getting in their hive. The bees were buzzing like crazy. “Oh no what should I do?” said Junior.

Back in the house of Junior, his family was looking for him. One of his brothers said, “You better not be hiding. Or else.” But I know, and you know, that he isn’t hiding. We all know that he is stuck in a beehive. His mother said, “Nothing like this ever happened. I bet he ran away. I should have been more nice than him.” Even the bullies were saying the same thing.

Junior closed his eyes. He felt the bee touch him. He screamed. When he opened his eyes, he was in a flower. “Are you O.K.?” asked the queen bee. The queen bee explained that they were only trying to rescue him. “Thank you.” said Junior. He didn’t like the way all the bees were looking at him so with all his strength, he took off. This time he found himself stuck in something. It was sticky. Something was living in it. It was a spider web. It really didn’t matter to him because he thought that spiders were nice but when he saw the spider, he didn’t think so. The spider hadn’t seen him but he would sooner or later.

The next morning his mother called to everyone, “Time for breakfast.” Everyone came flying down. His mother thought someone was missing. She thought oh where is Junior. She called “Junior time for breakfast. You don’t want to be late for school.” Then one of his brothers said, “Hey mom, he ran away remember.” His mom flied upstairs. But Junior wasn’t there. Of course she thought. “I am going to go find him,” thought his mom. She had to find him. She told her family she was going and off she went.

“Look what I found,” said one of the spiders. “A fly. He looks weak. Lets eat him,” said another. If he had the strength, Junior would have flew off. But he didn’t eat for 3 days so he didn’t have the strength. He didn’t know what to do. So he just stayed there. The spiders came closer drooling. Junior slept a equable sleep.

On this blog entry I will talk to you about comics. You will see many links which will help you when you are writing comic books.

1. Advices on drawing comics. I think when you write a comic book, you should write like Bill Watterson the author of “Calvin and Hobbes.” When he draws in a comic book he draws it like it is non fiction on some parts and on other parts he draws it like it is a cartoon. When you draw a cartoon character, you have to remember not to make the character normal. You have to have something different like Calvin. Calvin is small and he has spiky hair and his mouth is really big. This is a link to Calvin and Hobbes. Calvin is the small boy on the right.    

2. Caption and speech bubbles. All comic books have captions and speech bubbles. It is really important to have it. If you don’t, it wouldn’t be a good comic book. To have a good speech in a speech bubble, first you have to think of a story. After you think of a story, a good speech will come up into your mind. You just have to think of a speech that will fit that scene. For captions, you just have to write the narration. On captions you just have to remember one thing. That is that you have to explain it clearly. Because there is no meaning if you understand it and the readers don’t understand it. Its not you who is going to read it. I know a comic book that has really good captions and really good speech bubbles. If you can read japanese you should read the comic book called “Captain Tsubasa”. If you can’t read japanese then you should read the comic “Calvin and Hobbes” or The Simpsons.      

3. Story focus. When you are writing in a comic, you have to focus on one topic. If you don’t your story wouldn’t make sense and it will go off your topic. You have to pick one topic and focus on that topic. When you can’t think of a topic then you should think of what you like and think what you want to write about. You should read many comic books and then you should think how should I do it like this comic. Then you will come up with a good topic. I think that is how many authors get ideas. The movie I watched during the winter break is a japanese movie called HERO. It is about a amateur prosecutor who is trying to win a pro Attorney. The prosecutor is trying to win the Attorney and the prosecutor is giving the attorney many evidences but the attorney is pro so he can’t beat the attorney easily. He needs to find more evidence and he goes to Korea. The reason I like this movie is because it is like a comedy and the adventure in Korea is really funny. One more reason I like this movie is because of the title. The title is HERO which is my name. The actor in this movie is a famous singer in japan. His name is Kimura Takuya. He is a great actor so many people should watch this movie.   

My favorite game is a game called “Gyakuten saiban .” The game is about a lawyer. You are the lawyer and you get to object the people who is lying. If you make too many mistakes, the person you are defensing will be guilty. Before you go to the court you have to do some detective work. I recommend this game to people who likes to think a lot and to people who wants to be a prosecutor when you grow up.        

I am a ordinary boy in middle school. I was born on August 20th 1997 in Sagamihara. I lived in Japan all my life. My favorite sport is soccer and my favorite player is Nakamura Shunsuke. The club I like best is Celtic in Scotland. When I first came to YIS I was in kindergarten. My teacher was Mr. Curcuvic On my first day I didn’t have any friend but on my second day, a guy called Georgios came and became my friend. In 1st grade my teacher was Ms. Brown. In 1st grade my handwriting was really bad. But Ms. Brown helped me with my handwriting and now its not bad. 2nd grade was a fun grade. My teacher was Mrs. Saito. The fun thing was because on Friday we always wrote the Friday reflection. In 3rd grade my teacher was Ms. Stafford. 4th grade was the most fun grade because our teacher Ms. O’Brien, called Atsu, Georgios and I the 3 musketeer’s.In 5th grade my teacher was Ms. Hope. 5th grade was a big challenge but I lived through it. That is why i am here right now.    

My favorite character from Roald Dahl’s book is Billy from the book “The giraffe and the pelly  and me.” The reason why he is my favorite character is because he is a boy with a big dream and he is a joyful boy.  He is a boy who always dreamed of having his own sweet shop especially since there is an empty one named The Grubber near where he lives. One day, he finds that the building has been restored and has become the office for the Ladderless Window-Cleaning Company. After that Billy meets the workers, a Giraffe , a Pelly (Pelican) and a Monkey, whom he then befriends. They all get together when they receive a letter from the Duke to come and wash all the windows. When they get there, things go perfectly until the Giraffe and the Monkey spot a burglar while cleaning the windows of the Duchess’s bedroom, who attempts to steal the Duchess’s diamonds. The Pelican then flies in and catches the burglar in his beak, holding him there while the others panic. Eventually, the police arrive to arrest the burglar. As a reward for getting back the Duchess’s diamonds, the Duke invites the Giraffe, the Pelly and the Monkey to live in his place for his personal helper. Billy’s big dream come true because the Giraffe, the Pelly and the Monkey doesn’t need the Grubber building anymore. So Billy makes it into a sweet shop and his dream came true. 

Gr.6 did a poster about Roald Dahl. We all had to answer the question “What made Roald Dahl a good storyteller?” We got 3 lessons of work time. First we discussed what we should do to make the poster. We came up with the idea of interviewing. We interviewed the teachers in YIS. The teachers we interviewed were Mr.Neary, Ms.Nadeau, Mr.Tracey, Ms.Kar and Ms.Gerrish. The completed poster was kind of good but not the way I imagined it would be. The bad part was that we didn’t have much information but, the good part was that we all worked together.    

I think we should have field studies because, we learn new things like working as a team. One more thing is because we get to stay away from our parents and we have to be responsible for our self. The bad thing is that you can’t drink fizzy drinks and you can’t play soccer when you want to. The last good thing is that you get to be with your friends. You can play with your friends and visit their rooms. But when you fight with your friends, you will end up being in trouble.   

When I first came to Middle school, I thought it was worse than elementary. But now I think Middle school is so much better than elementary. I still think Middle school is harder than elementary. Middle school is fun and we get more time for lunch recess than elementary. The most fun subject is still PE. I still like soccer but, now I am good at math and computers. So far Middle school is great. But I need to practice on English. I am going to read a lot of books from now on.
